Wow, I find it hard to believe that I’ve survived 63 years. I’m not the most responsible person when it comes to having fun, but I have survived. I have the most amazing family and friends and I know they have my back, they always have.
Semi-retired? Sure, but I am my father’s son and I’m still involved in the business. I just can’t walk away completely. I hope if this place ever sells that I can put it behind me.
Harley-Davidson made being less involved in the business bearable. I can honestly say that riding and the friends I’ve made in HOG have kept me sane, if you can call it sane. It’s all about perspective I guess.
I voted for the lesser of 2 evils this past election. Didn’t really like Trump, but I despised clinton. I’m starting to enjoy the show about now. It amazes me how much shit he can stir with just a tweet. I’m thinking of getting on Twitter just to learn advanced shit stirring from Trump. I thought I was good, but DAMN, I’m just a rank amateur compared to The Donald.
Today was the first Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board (LTAB) meeting of 2017. We had a full board in attendance and with the departure of the former county manager, we were pretty much left hanging. Prior to the actual meeting, I suspected that this would happen. As chairman of the board, I led the meeting and we jointly worked out a plan for the future direction of the LTAB.
We will spend the next several meetings working out a new RFP procedure for the county to follow on the awarding of monetary grants to entities looking for funding. Advertising, the content of the ad, the expectations of our board from all applicants, and other incidentals that may be required to limit the county from liabilities. All of this was taken care of by the former manager. soon after he quit, he stopped by here and gave me a heads up.
After our meeting I walked downstairs to meet the new manager, Vidal Martinez. Nice guy and he sounded very supportive of the boards efforts. I reminded him that I will guide the board according to the NM Lodger’s Tax Law and he was in full agreement. I introduced him to 2 other board members and we all left.
We all are in agreement that we need to simplify the process and move the RFP and awards processes to October to better serve the entities that are seeking awards.
I am a husband, father, grandfather, friend, business owner, traveller, Harley rider, citizen, patriot, gun owner, politically eclectic person of strange personal habits. I support police, trust no politicians, and can argue any side of an argument just to amuse myself. People love me or hate me and those that are in-between don't know me.
