A visit to Solano NM

Nina and I took a drive recently. We ended up in the town of Solano, a pretty small town. Took a bunch of pictures and ended up talking to the owner of the church that’s shown and learned quite a bit about the area, the church, and the graveyard.

The first 5 pics are from the buildings that were the public school. The first looks like it‘s still a viable building, but the second is dangerous to go inside. The church pics are of the Union Church and the inside. We were walking around the outside of the building when the owner, Harold, asked if we wanted to see the inside. I said yes! What a quaint little building with a lot of the church artifacts still posted around the inside. The pews were placed in various places around the sanctuary and the seats you see in their place were from the olds school’s auditorium.

He also told us that the stones the church was built with sere sourced from the Canadian River Canyon, the last picture, and it was built in 1912.The last group of pictures were from the Solano Cemetery and we found Harold’s wife’s grave with his name without and end date on it.Harold was a great guide and a super nice guy. We’ll be back when it‘s warmer and spend more time with him.

The cemetery has plenty of crosses like this, along with more modern headstones.

I thought this one said it all about Mary.
I love headstones with pictures.

I am a husband, father, grandfather, friend, business owner, traveller, Harley rider, citizen, patriot, gun owner, politically eclectic person of strange personal habits. I support police, trust no politicians, and can argue any side of an argument just to amuse myself. People love me or hate me and those that are in-between don't know me.
