Shooting update.

  • Couldn’t get him to hold the signs while I shot them.
  • Got hung up on a rock. My normal approach was inaccessible.
  • Called Joe and got pulled off.  First time for everything I guess.
  • The gun shot great.  It was too bright to use the laser sight.
  • NIGHT SHOOTING SOON!
  • I managed to realign the laser sight to be close to the fixed sights though.
  • Small amount of fun in a mostly boring day.
Oriental tonight.

Going shooting today.

I have a new gun that I bought last month sometime and I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet. I roughly sighted in the laser sight by aiming it across the room. Levy asked me to shoot up some of his real estate signs because they lack character. I feel that this can be a good opportunity to test fire the gun. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get him to hold the signs in front of him while I shoot them.

Can’t say yes, but I won’t say no.

Just a few things I’ve noticed.

Diana

Diana, the ladies’ caregiver, appears a bit slow. Sitting next to the monitor for our surveillance system and watching it for over 2 hours, she finally realizes that “it’s live!” She appeared not to be happy that we have cameras all over the place. Like I care.

Shirley

She’s talking again and she sounds like Hell. She sounds like a man almost. Weird actually. I have no clue why that’s happened unless her larynx atrophied from lack of use. Each week I’m more surprised that she’s still alive.

Lunch Friday

Canela’s Restaurant in Pecos. We’re doing our lunches in Pecos more lately. The fires have all but killed the town and we feel the need to help our neighbors.

Lunch Thursday

After our lodger’s meeting I spent some time with Lanier and talked about her situation in the upper Pecos Canyon. She’s lost about 40% of the trees on her ranch but her fishing has been spared along Cow Creek because of her efforts when the fire started. She and her employees built coffer dams and diversion berms to move the runoff to other areas rather than the creek. Cow Creek is a prime fly-fishing destination and her place is a very desirable destination for those looking to get-away from it all. No cell service there. We discussed having our next year’s meeting at her place and bringing the press along. Later that day at the next meeting I attended, it was mentioned that the combined groups have a lodger’s tax workshop retreat at her place. Curious what that will cost the county.

General poop

  • Erin left on Thursday while I was in a meeting.
  • Our Michigan trip is drawing closer.
  • Erin loves riding her bike. Thinking of bringing it with us to MI.
  • Tori, Andy, Debra, and Joh all left for Colorado for some sort of Ren Faire.
  • I don’t understand the attraction of them.
  • Well, I’m thinking that’s it for this posting.
  • Later
I feel fabulous!

Two great meetings!

Both of Thursday’s meetings went of great. All agreed that collaboration between the county and city should happen and while there were several questions about certain areas, I believe all left happy.

The EDC collaborative meeting was also very receptive about this and we are planning a presentation about the city/county efforts to the state tourism board.

I can’t believe my stupid idea grew into this effort with a life of its own.

LTAB

  • Lodger’s tax board meeting @ 11:30 in Pecos.
  • Economic Development tourism meeting @ 3:00 in Vegas.
  • If it sounds to you like I’ll be driving a bit tomorrow, you’d be right.
  • I initiated a combined marketing plan for the city & the county and it’s coming to fruition. I’m kinda amazed actually.

Yesterday

Nina tried to kill both of the old ladies here around dinner time. Both choked on food she served. Happened about an hour apart. I was nervous going to sleep last night because she’s a believer of “third time’s the charm”. I survived the night.

More & different

Lunch with Joe and Phil at Tiny’s was very good. I had a chicken tender enchilada with green chili and I don’t remember what Joe and Phil had. Joe and Phil needed to meet and I facilitated the meet. It was interesting being the “fly on the wall” as two members of the oldest families in the valley traded names and stories of family and the past.

Is Canada really real?

Warning! Danger!

iPhone warning systems are now startling the daylights out of us. We’ve never had them before and they are very attention getting. Warning of flash floods, heavy rains, and other stuff. We’ve each got some repeatedly and I think they’re kinda cool.

Obama is forcing furloughs on civilian New Mexicans working for the military. Great job you’re doing Big O, just freaking great. I know it’s nationwide, but NM is my focus. Trickle down unemployment! That sounds worse than the old liberal bitch of trickle down economics.

Well, I repaired our video system today, sort of. We’re still short a couple of cameras, but we’re mostly up. Ordered a new system with cameras that pan, tilt, and rotate. Will probably need fewer cameras with this type of camera.

I also fixed our network error problem with the gas pumps. Turns out that the line that have for the gas pumps is dead. Calling the phone company tomorrow to have that fixed. Just hooked it up to a different line for the time being. One of the good things of having 5 lines here I guess.

Pump 2 still has it’s problems though and I hope to find the parts online soon and fix that one too.

Pilates today. Helping Catherine with a new program afterwards. Hoping to go with Tori to visit the county after that.

More rain in the forecast for today. Keep it coming please! Even with all the rain that we’ve received, we’re still showing a Pecos River that is a shadow of what’s normal. very low river, except when it is raining. Once it stops, the river lowers to scary low levels.

Well, time for me to think about breakfast.

One of your old favourite songs from way back when

Quinn?

So the silent one comes to NM, drives right by my place, and doesn’t even stop to say hi. Nice, real nice.

Other stuff that doesn’t involve nephews that ignore me.

  • Erin’s home.
  • Nina and I went to Colorado yesterday for lunch.
  • The Wendy’s in NM aren’t good enough for us.
  • Our video system went tits up. I think this is the 3rd to do so.
  • I’m thinking of replacing this one with a wi-fi system. Still shopping.
  • The weatherliar chick is looking good today. She’s a nice dutch girl.  Carl?
  • Looks like another week of no poker. He’s running a Texas Hold Em game again and I suck at that.  And then there’s the jinx. TED, the jinx.
  • Made pancakes yesterday for breakfast.  ML loved them, but Sh ignored them this time.
  • ML is being difficult at times, but to date she’s always on her best behavior when I’m here. Yesterday she ripped into Diana, her newest caretaker. Stupid old people! (not you Mom!)
  • They discovered a snake in NM that they thought was extinct and Erin said that they have them near her dad’s house.
  • Does anyone else think that it’s funny that the Lone Ranger got crap reviews and a cartoon, Despicable Me 2, kicked Tonto’s ass?
  • A TV show, supposedly taking place in Montana but filmed locally in NM, is doing quite well. Longmire is in it’s second season. We watched the first show and were unimpressed, but I saw it one day last week and since the remote was across the room and I couldn’t be bothered to get it, I sat through the show.  NOT BAD! Compared to the first one I found it to be a very good show. Add the fact that I recognize many of the places that scenes are shot at to increase the interest and I got a new show to watch.
  • Our place was scouted as a filming location but that never happened. The location scout owns property that adjoins ours. Newton was also interested in other locations I know of, but since he didn’t choose us, I passed on showing him other cool things.
  • Dennis just called and told me he’s downstairs waiting for me, so BYE.
If you can’t scratch the itch, you know it will drive you stupid.
