Plans for the 4th?

Mine are the same as usual, stay at home. New Years Eve and the 4th of July are the 2 holidays that we get serious criminal interest after we close. They must think that we may go to a party or something, but they’ve been disappointed in the past and this year will make it 19 years of disappointment.

July 1st is our anniversary of buying this place. 19 years. If we still own it next year I may throw a b-b-q for my loyal customers, or not. On our first 4th of July here I set the place on fire with fireworks. What a dumbass. Never lit off fireworks at home again after that.

  • Pilates today.
  • May take Erin with.
  • Dinner with Nina tonight.
  • Not taking Erin with for that.
Guns, Guts, Freedom

Almost July.

Time sure seems to be flying by. We picked up Erin yesterday and had a nice chat with the Herns. I think I’m starting to win them over. Not sure what I’ll do next. Maybe I’ll continue being nice for Erin’s sake.

Poker this week. Maybe.

Cloudy out right now, Rain would be wonderful, but none was predicted by the weatherliars locally.

For all that cares, Shirley is still alive. She’s getting weaker and spends more time in bed lately.

That’s it for now. Exciting life lately.

Grabbed this from the “Chicks on the Right” blog.

I found this to be really spot on.

So, Paula Deen Got Fired For Saying The “N” Word A Long Time Ago…

Written by

If you’re a Food Network fan or a foodie or have been watching TV or reading the news at all for the past day and a half, you know that Paula Deen has been fired for being a racist.

I’m not one of those foodie-type people.  I don’t spend a lot of time in my kitchen, and usually those cooking folks on TV just make me feel more inadequate when I DO spend time in my kitchen, so I avoid those shows, frankly.  So yeah – I know who Paula Deen is, and I know that she’s 66 years old and from the South, and I know that things may have looked a little different in the south for a 66-year old woman.

Before you jump me, bleeding hearts, I’m also a believer that using the “N-word” – specifically in this case in the workplace (if that’s indeed what happened here) – is without-a-doubt a fireable offense.  So before we go any further, there you go.  It’s inexcusable.

BUT – and yes, there’s a big ol’ but here – I also believe in CONSISTENCY.  If you say the “N-word,” you’re a giant douchecanoe with issues.  But if you call a woman a c*nt or a tw*t?  I believe that’s just as offensive and JUST as fire-worthy, because you have the same issues.  So let’s discuss that, shall we?  Because there seems to be a bit of moral selectivism in this country, and it’s annoying me.

Case in point:  I have a great deal of liberal friends on Facebook who have their panties all up in a wad about Paula Deen and her offensive comments (from years ago, mind you, that are apparently fireable offenses now).  These are the same people who “Like” jackwads like Bill Maher and David Lettermen.  They LIKE him.  And those guys effortlessly call women c*nts and tw*ts…because that’s FUNNY, you see.  Now, to me – as a woman – a man calling a woman those names are as offensive as a white person calling a black person the “N-word.”  They’re just sexism instead of racism.  Same thing, though.  Just a different “ism.”  Yet, I don’t see my liberal friends on Facebook being OUTRAGED about those men treating women with such horrifying disrespect.

And we all know why, right?  It’s because they’re talking about CONSERVATIVE women in that context.  And to liberals in this country, conservatives – especially conservative women – are second-class citizens.  We’re nothing more than the scum on the bottom of a liberal’s shoe.  Not EQUAL to them at all, therefore not worthy of the same respect that they’d give ‘their own kind,’ yes?

Kinda sounds a bit like a familiar civil rights struggle back in the 60s, huh?

I mean, if Lettermen called FLOTUS a tw*t?  Or if Maher would’ve called Hillary Clinton a c*nt?  The earth may have imploded.

But when they aimed their sexism toward conservative women?  Laughter.

No one was reprimanded. No one was fired.  In fact, these guys were CELEBRATED by the left.

Unbelievable the hypocrisy here, folks.

So back to Paula Deen.  I really don’t give two rat’s butts whether or not she’s fired.  What I do care about is the double freaking standard in this country.  A little less selective moral outrage would be nice.

And a little more consistency would make me less sick to my stomach when raising a young, conservative girl in a country where racism is obviously horrible, but sexism against her specifically?  Totally OK.

How’s that for progress?

Days.

My days are all screwed up. If my computer didn’t say it was Sunday, I’d think it was Friday today. The joys of a seven day business.

NOTHING happened yesterday. All Shirley’s caregivers were off. I sat here all day, so this is it.

Joe busted my damned tractor!

Damn you Joe Sandoval! That crappy little wire you fixed my busted muffler mount with broke while in the middle of a paying job! I actually had to crawl underneath the freaking thing and get dirty fixing that thing THE RIGHT WAY. Do you have any clue how dirty it is under that tractor? Jerk. I had to bathe twice yesterday because of you. TWICE!

You’d think a guy that lives out here would know that there’s a drought going on out here and water is in short supply. Do you have any idea how much water it takes to clean me?

Other stuff that doesn’t include Joe, my ex-friend.

I did the driveway of a new couple that moved out here. He’s a software geek and she’s a horsey person. Nice couple. He’s hoping to work from here if his boss is cool with that. I think he wrote the software that the NSA uses in spying on us, but he won’t admit to it.

Carl should move out here, I meet new people all the time. At the monthly dinners at Arrow’s Ridge I also meet single women. Probably won’t happen, it’s a long commute for him back to Plainfield.

I used to think that I carried too many tools and parts with me in my Jeep, but lying under the tractor fixing the poorly patched muffler mount proved me wrong. I even had the strapping needed to properly fix the thing.

Dennis was in yesterday to do laundry. Don stopped by and we signed the contract to make us legal again. The work should be done in September, after the summer season, if we ever get one because of these stupid fires. Fires caused by this drought that we are in currently.

Dinner was at Canella’s in Pecos, great for lunch, not as great for Friday dinner. Don’t get me wrong, the food was good, but they had live music and both of us are not fans. It doesn’t matter whether the musician is good of bad, they’re always loud enough to stop all conversation.

Tori wants me to say hi to all you readers, but I won’t do it. Let her start her own damned blog. Rotten kid. Loud too.

Texting is a waste of time

I feel that the time wasted by texting over talking is huge and the only reason it’s so popular is the sneakiness of the method. I can see the usefulness of some forms of texting, short messages like:

  • Running late, see you in 5.
  • How far are you away?
  • Have to cancel. Call you later.
  • Yes
  • No
  • Don’t make me kill you.

Short texts make sense. Conversations on text strike me as stupid and sneaky. Our youth is losing the art of conversation with this.

More Stuff

Went to Santa Fe and had my Jeep serviced. Dennis was with me and we saw Julie Catron there and we had a nice chat with her. Lunch was at Chicago Dogs in Santa Fe, a true Chicago style hotdog stand. Vienna dogs only sold here. It was great.

Nice time with Dennis. Good conversation. It was a nice morning.

PEACE

Just another thursday.

There’s a rumored fire over by Los Montoyas, which is near the Hern’s place. I doubt it’s a serious fire though, the area is not heavily timbered and mostly shrub. A couple of dogs lifting their legs could douse it if Will was one of the dogs.

Tori, Erin and I went house shopping again yesterday. She found one that she likes and is probably gonna pull the trigger on it.

Erin leaves today. Bummer.

I may head to Santa Fe today if they have time to service my Jeep. Need to call after 7 to see.

That’s it. Just another Thursday, right?

Peace

From Charlotte

A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by IdiotsAttributed to Jeff Foxworthy:

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

Visited Marylou yesterday.

She was pleasant, so I remained pleasant.

July 1.

Other Shit

Erin loves her bike. She rides it out front and I’m sure that she’ll eventually move to other portions of the property once she gains confidence riding it. I know she loves riding on the paved areas and she’s getting pretty good.

Heading down to Alb. with Tori and Erin this morning. Going to look at some homes for Tori. While there is a company that makes a better home, I prefer Karsten Home over the others.

Friday I head out to do some work for a new resident out here. Tractor work on their driveway. They seem like nice people. He writes software for the military and she’s a horsey person. I’m hooking her up with Huie to see if he can point her in the right direction for possible horse related jobs.

Thursday we meet with D & H about our line upgrade. $$$ Oh well, it has to happen. Stoopid government rules!

Dat’s it, peace.

Stuff.

  • RAIN! Thunder storm woke me at 11:45 with Whiskey jumping into bed with us. It was the worst kind of storm at first, just thunder and lightning and I thought it would bring a new spate of fires, but we finally  got the rain it promised. Trouble is that the downpour lasted only a few minutes and the Lightning continued it’s way across the valley. It was clear skies by 12:02.
  • I hope this spawned no new fires.
  • I was beat last night and in bed before 9.
  • 5 hours, 45 minutes from Ouray to home.
  • We bought Erin a cute little 2 wheeler with training wheels for Erin in Ouray. It’s a Radio Flyer bike. She spent hours riding it yesterday. It was nice to watch her on the bike.
  • Got a bit of rain yesterday. Not much, but some. Nowhere near like last night.
  • One of our fires is still burning and it’s out of control. It is also in a remote portion of the Pecos Wilderness area and offers no threat to anyone and they’re letting it burn unchecked.
  • Erin was home waiting for us when we arrived home, but there is a battle brewing between Tori and the Herns. I hope Tori cuts them off on their visits with Erin.
  • Jimmy Hoffa made the news again last night. Does anyone still care?
