Just some more stuff . . . .

  • Got some snow and it’s mostly gone already.
  • Weather liar says that that snow was the first of four storms that are to hit us hard.  What a dreamer.
  • Finally used my plow with some measurable type of snow.  It was nice.
  • Visited ML with Erin & Nina yesterday.  She’s counting the days until she comes back to our home. Huh?
  • Getting her a TV for her room.  Everyone else has one, so she should too.  Her idea, not mine.
  • Booked for London again.  Staying at The Mad Hatter Hotel.
  • Plans are now being made to meet and greet with old friends again.
  • One friend is going to be here getting a pilot’s license in Aug and Sep and plans to fly down for a visit.  His employer is paying for him to get the license.  Pretty cool.
  • Lunch with Dennis & Joe tomorrow.  Casa de Herrera is the place.
  • Dinner with Nina tonight.
  • Peace

Home

What a P.I.A. trip home, but we made it.  Wind, break down, tow truck, sitting in the service waiting room and getting told I can’t do something that I like to do.  It seems that John Hoffer Dodge doesn’t like it when there’s customers in the service area.  Really?  It’s not like I was giving advice or trying to do it myself, I was just watching.  I like to watch people working on my equipment.  I like to learn how to fix things I’ve never had to fix before.  Oh well, it took only an hour to fix it and we were on the road again.

The wind really wore me down and I felt it at the end of the day.  Headwinds on Monday and crosswinds today.  That Jeep in wind handles so well that I was surprised that I didn’t get stopped for DUI.  Like driving a refrigerator box in a windstorm.  Still like the Jeep though.

Holy Crap, I’m Tired!

  • Long freaking day.
  • Left Illinois at 5:15.
  • No real problems leaving Illinois.
  • No real problems leaving Missouri.
  • Problems started when we hit Oklahoma.
  • One of the transmission lines I had replaced went pop.
  • Smoke, lots of smoke.
  • Oil, lots of oil, on my Jeep.
  • ERS called.
  • Tow truck arrived.
  • Took us to Carthage and dropped us at the Dodge dealer.
  • 1 hour later we were on the road again.
  • Great service and nice people in Carthage!
  • NO TRANNY damage!  Yay!
  • Now we’re in Weatherford OK for the night at a Holiday Inn.
  • Good night all!

Suitcases and linen crap

Well, we brought a bunch of stuff to a resale shop yesterday.  Some old, and not so old, suitcases with clothes in them.  they were glad to get them and I plan to bring more to that place in LaGrange.  Most of the stuff has zero worth to us, so donating the stuff to some group that can sell it works for me.

That old broad had a suitcase that could be used to move a body.  I can’t believe that a person would need to bring that much shit with them on vacation, anywhere, but then I’m not a woman and women travel differently than guys.  Carl for instance, he went to the Netherlands for a week with a bag smaller than my shaving kit and found it adequate.  Me I’m a carry-on size guy, even when I check the bag.  If I need more clothes, I either buy it or wash what I brought.  I guess ML needed to bring everything.

Going today to get all the oriental rugs out of the house today and take them to a place in Santa Fe for appraisal.  The 2 I opened were very nice runners and would possibly be used as wall art.  After we get them loading into the trailer, we’ll top off the trailer with other things that we absolutely need in NM and head home tomorrow morning, very early.  Nina, did you see that?  Very early.

Mission Accomplished

Got all the banking we needed done.  All of it.  Very happy with our progress yesterday.  Today we go to the condo with Mom and tackle ML’s bedroom.  It’s the one room that we can do that will free up space to allow us to sort and organize.  With the BR cleaned, I can disassemble the bed to give us floor space to move around.

Dinner with Johnson last night.  Appetizers really but I left there full.  We met at the Capri and had a nice time chatting.  Drank more than I care to but I was still OK to drive.

Don, Sue, Pat, and Nan tonight.  Pat has been a no-show mostly in any get together lately, but I saw him last at Lou & Perry’s anniversary gig.  I hope he’ll come tonight, he adds a nice sarcastic tone to the evening.

In Illinois

This is a short trip compared to my last visit here.  Today we are finishing up some things with the banks and the weekend will be spent at her condo working our way through the mess.  Monday early will find us on the road again.

We stopped into the condo to explore and bring Mom some stuff she wanted to give to the resale shops that she donates to regularly.  During the exploration phase of this visit, we found 2 Persian rugs that she bought in 1994.  One is dark and heavy looking and the other is very light colored and looks brand new.  Both are great examples of the rugs and are very well made.  Upon further exploration, I found what appears to be quite a few more of the same type of rugs under the bed in her bedroom.  I’m thinking that the bedroom will be a focus of our cleaning this weekend.  I’d like to tear down the bed and stack it against the wall to make room for stacking things, but who knows what beneath that bed.  My next gun MAY be there according to ML, but who knows.

Later.

Happy V-D.

Sitting in the lobby of a Holiday Inn Express.  Talking to the clerk, who appears to have had a very lonely night.  Rolla, MO.  I’ve got less than 5 hours drive time ahead of me for today, at least until I get to Mom’s.

Nice trip yesterday.  Great audio book, a Connelly, for this leg of the journey.  It’s a rerun for me, but Nina never heard it before and it’s been a long time since I heard this one.  The Brass Verdict.

Mom, should be there before 1 or 2.  Will probably head to ML’s condo to pick something up for the Christina and bring it to lunch on Friday.

I hope that everyone has a great Valentines Day.

2day

Hi,

Breakfast with Mark G.  B & G w/eggs on top.

Lunch with Joe and Dennis.  Turkey plate w/beans, coleslaw, and potato salad.

Dinner with Nina @ Olive Garden.

All meals were good and with good company.  3 meals out is a very unusual thing for me, when I’m not on the road.

I brought my Jeep in for service prior to heading to Chicago, again.  I’m getting tired of going there, I’m sure that Mom is getting tired of me being there, and I am starting to hate driving.  Transmission cooling lines were starting to leak and needed replacing.  I also had the check engine light on and once the computer was hooked up to the Jeep it was determined that the EGR valve was toast.  Back in service now and running good.

Nina was with me at Lithia this evening and we looked at the new Grand Cherokee.  Nice, roomy, great head room, and pretty color.  Need another 70,000 on the Jeep before I am thinking of replacing it.
