Udder Tings

  • I didn’t get my sliders installed yesterday.
  • Went to the Apple store and saw my next computer. It’s a large screen desktop that is very very fast. Next as in way way down the road.
  • Lunch at the Elephant Bar. I had the Korean tacos. Nina has a salad.
  • BIG delay going home. A camper self-destructed on I-25. It was all over the highway. Wind is not your friend when towing without the needed equipment.
  • Erin is home. Yay.
  • While in ABQ, I stopped at Sportsman’s Warehouse. I saw a cooler selling for $700! It was at least a 3 body cooler. Even the smallest cooler was a $200 item, in that brand line.
  • Bought a holster. Ammo is still scarce, but I’m seeing some conventional stuff out there lately, but not much.
  • Poker on Thursday. May or may not attend.
  • For those keeping track, we did not go east this week as planned. Extenuating circumstances.
  • Had to glue more tiles to the counter face again. The crap adhesive that was used will have me replacing all of them eventually.
  • I broke Erin last night. She tripped over some barbed wire that someone cut on one of my fences.
  • OK, dat’s it.

Tings! (Dad speak for things)

Last night at Arrow’s Ridge was a small crowd. Beth, Nancy, Carl, and Mom, Beth Juarros says hi. She was up there with her family and Aaron, her hubby, was playing Jamaican music since that was the theme of the evening. Food was good and I was the host du jour since Joe had some personal business in ABQ. Pleasant evening.

The fires are becoming more contained and larger. The one nearest to us is 10,400 acres and is 40% contained. The Jemez one was fire bombed last night to start back burns to contain the southern end of the fire, if the back burn works.

Not going east this week. Sorry to all of you that looked forward to seeing us. Circumstances changed and that’s all I got for you right now. Weather on the routes we normally take did play a small role in our decision.

Got some ammo for my gun. Thanks Dennis and Al. Dennis provided the wadcutters for testing the gun and Al gave me some hollow points for carrying. Friends are good to have when you need firepower.

My sliders came in and I may install them this afternoon. They install between the tires, under the sheet metal to the body. They protect the sheet metal from damage when 4 wheeling and will provide Nina with a step into the vehicle. My new bumper shipped Friday and has a front hitch receiver for my snow plow. The Hidden Hitch receiver that I had intended to buy was $325 and would take 3 hours to install. The new bumper is stronger than the factory bumper, cheaper at $285, and only takes an hour to install. It will accept the factory fog lights and has a finish that matches all the other metal on the Jeep.

Illinois & Michigan? Maybe, maybe not.

Some wrinkles have developed that may keep us here. Not really too upset about that, but still would have liked to head east to see friends and family. This afternoon will give me a definitive answer.

Picked up a wheel gun. Haven’t owned one in years, at least a concealable one that is, and I saw one at a local shop for a very decent price. Laser sights, hammerless design, and titanium frame. Light, compact and pretty cool. I’m going to have to start reloading for .38s now if I plan to shoot this thing since the big O has Homeland Security buying up all the ammo. I have the dies and powder, but I’m not sure of the brass or bullets. Oh well, time to hit up friends to see if they have any spare ammo they can part with.

I found this little logo thingy online yesterday. I like it’s look and I’m going to try to figure a way to incorporate it into the header of my blog. Shouldn’t take more than an hour to figure out where the logo is stored in the program, download it and the add the logo to the image.

Topless?

avatar118150_1.gif

I’m thinking of taking the top off my Jeep today to see if I enjoy driving it that way. I guess it all hinges on Andy and if he’ll be around to help me remove it.

Rain & Fire

Well, we had two days with “some” rain, which helps, but we are now expecting a hot and HUMID weekend. The weatherliar chick has mentioned temps in the 100’s over the weekend. Yay? Got to take the bad with the good I guess. The little rain we had did help the fire crews though and the cooler weather yesterday made a hard job slightly easier.

Erin

Erin left yesterday, all the while yelling out the window “I love you Mommy!  I don’t want to leave!” I’m betting that Belle felt crappy hearing that. She revels in the fact that Erin cries when leaving them, a thing they encourage I believe, so I don’t care if her feelings are hurt.

Today

Going to lunch with Dennis and Joe in Pecos. Cannela’s Restaurant is one of Dennis’ favorites and we meet there at noon. Join us if you read this. I’m buying, I lost a bet. I didn’t think Anni and Julie would return from Michigan, but they did. Dammit!

Tonight, Nina and I will go to el Rialto. Same place as always. Yes, we are in a rut, but I enjoy their food and it’s a reciprocal arrangement, we eat there and they shop here. Works for me!

I may head up to Diane’s this afternoon to try and kill some small and cute animal. She has a squirrel problem.

Verizon, Facebook & the NSA

Big shitstorm about this on the news this morning. Partisan politics raises it’s ugly head again. I could care less if the NSA listens to my phone calls. I could care less if the NSA checks my Facebook postings, Hell, I encourage them to read them. What a horrid boring existence listening to my calls and reading my posts on FB. If Obama wants to read my shit, I’ll even friend his dumb ass on FB. Our government is anal, fearful, and not to be trusted by anyone. Don’t get your panties in knot, I think the right is just as reprehensible as the left. I really hate our government. Not for this incident, just in general. They bore me more than any other news story, including sports, that appears on my TV. I am thinking of dumping TV. Maybe I should just follow Mom’s lead and only watch Judge Judy.

Rain, finally

Yesterday we got a bit of rain. Not a lot, maybe 1/8 of an inch, but it was rain. I hope it helped with the fires.

Erin, Tori and I had plans to head to Alb. for dinner last night, but once we hit south of S.F. the traffic stopped and cops and ambulances were weaving through the traffic to get to what I assumed was a bad accident. This was going to be our first time to a monthly Jeep Wrangler meeting that’s held at the north end of Alb. that I’ve wanted to go to for quite some time. Oh well, there’s always next month.

Went to AT&T yesterday and lowered my phone bill by $150. I was going to go to T-Mobile like Carl did, but they did all right by me so I stayed.

Erin leaves today. Bummer! Later all.

Dumb assed kids

Last night, around 11:30, Nina and Tori woke me up because some kids were beating up my gas equipment.  I got up and yelled at them while standing on my deck in my underwear, waving a pistol at them. I went out and checked for damage, but there was none.  They just emptied the windshield wash bucket and used the squeegee to beat my equipment and left it and a shitload of paper towels lying on the ground.

Fire Update!

There is no fire update. Same shit, different day. Woke up to smoke, so the fire’s still there.

Pilates

Second day of my return to Pilates and I’m still glad I returned to Pilates. Colleen keeps nailing us with new things to do and I get a nice workout each week.

Erin

Today is the last full day together before we head east. Then we’ll not see her for over a week. That stinks! She’s bee playing a lot with Jeannie’s granddaughter, Aislen or some such shit. They’ve been having a lot of fun together in the store and outside.

Heading East

Yeah, we’re heading east again. More of a vacation than a cleaning up of Marylou’s shit, but we will spend some time in her Hell working on removing more crap. I hope to see the Kleywegs, Norketts and Johnson while there.

That’s it! Peace out peoples.

Stop yelling at me!

I’m sick and tired of noise, yelling, and TV commercials. I want peace and quiet now and then. I hate having the TV at a volume that I have to because everyone needs to shout. Last night I could hear an unnamed female, that’s related to me and is my granddaughter’s mother, talking downstairs over my TV upstairs. I wake up in the morning and watch the news at volume level 12 and by the time I go to bed the volume is set over 25. And I wonder why my ears are ringing constantly.

Sam’s Club

I hate Sam’s Club. I can tolerate the place during commercial member hours, which happen to be from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., but the normal hours make me want to hurt people deliberately. People cut me off without thinking about the 800 pounds I have to stop on the cart I’m pushing around. I called one woman a dumb c**t yesterday. She just walked in front of me and stopped dead. She must be used to that phrase because she just glared at me and ignored me. I wanted to punch her. DAMN, I hate Sam’s Club. I was at Sam’s alone on Monday. Monday and at Sam’s, bad combo.

The fire above Pecos

When I went to bed last night, it had reached over 8000 acres. That’s about 12 square miles to my urban friends. The now have an official containment figure and that is 5%. That is a very low figure after 5 days and it’s because of the wind. This morning seems to have the worst smoke settling overnight that we’ve had during this fire.

Strange thing that affected a friend that lives near the fire. He has to get new auto insurance because of a divorce proceeding and was denied because all new insurance is being denied in San Miguel County during the fire.

Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board meetings have even been affected by the fire. Two of our board members live within the fire circle and they refuse to leave because they would not be allowed back. Lanier, won’t leave because of her animals and Huie could leave and return but since he’s the fire chief of the area on fire, he’s busy I guess. With one other member being out of the country, we will not have a quorum and it’s illegal to meet without a quorum.

Me and politics

Someone, a customer, told me to run for the county commission. He likes my views on politics and feels that I have something to offer. Profanity when confronted with stupidity is not something that has been considered “something to offer” in the county.

The mayor of Las Vegas is facing a recall attempt. Alfonso Ortiz is a good person and fiscally sound as a politician. Some dumb couple, mainly the female of the family, has it out for Al and has stirred up the masses to get out there with petitions to force a recall. I hope she gets her ass handed to her and loses her next election run for councilor. She ran against Al during the last election. Sore loser maybe?

Shirley

Still alive. No real active days lately, thankfully. Debra is working out great.

Marylou

She’ll return for round 2 after we return from Illinois. When we visit with her she just won’t shut up. I hope they break her of that before we get her.

Another Sunday

Picked up Erin yesterday. She was a bit pissy at first, but then she realized that it hasn’t worked before and wouldn’t work this time. She became her fun self again shortly. I think she is so used to ruling the roost at the Hern household that she finds it difficult to switch it off when she is picked up.

Didn’t get to see the birds. I forgot when we were heading home and by the time I remembered, I had just woke up from my nap.

Fire was not an issue yesterday. Erin and I went for ice cream around 7 in the evening and had a great time driving through Pecos and seeing all the police, forest service, and fire units in town. She kept pointing at the different vehicle saying “look Pake!” She enjoys riding in the front seat and I may have Nina sit in the back when we go to the bank this morning.

Not much else to say right now. Later.

I am a husband, father, grandfather, friend, business owner, traveller, Harley rider, citizen, patriot, gun owner, politically eclectic person of strange personal habits. I support police, trust no politicians, and can argue any side of an argument just to amuse myself. People love me or hate me and those that are in-between don't know me.
