Amarillo? No?

Yesterday, Nina and I were supposed to join a ride to Amarillo, Texas and join a group of HOG members at the Big Texan. That did not happen. The group was supposed to drive by our exit and we were supposed to just jump into the group and head to Route 84 and head south. The leader of this group was well aware of this plan, but he changed the route at the last minute and said we could join them at a different location, some 80 miles from here.

Our schedule was set according to the original plan and we did not have the time to get ready for HIS new plan. The group would have had to wait 20 to 30 minutes for us to arrive, if they were allowed to wait. We decided to cancel our plans for this trip and cancelled our motel reservation. This person has a history of screwing up rides and I for one am done riding with him on any ride where he has a leading role. If he is a road captain on any ride, I will not be there.

Coffee with Jesus

A Republican, in a wheelchair, entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Republican looked across the restaurant and asked is that Jesus sitting over there?” The waitress nodded “yes! So, the Republican requested that she give Jesus a cup of coffee, on him.

The next patron to come in was a Libertarian, with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, “Is that Jesus, over there?”
The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, “My treat.”

The third patron to come into the restaurant, was a Democrat on crutches.
He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered,
“Hey there honey! How’s about getting me a cold mug of Miller Light!”
He, too, looked across the restaurant and asked, “Isn’t that God’s boy over there?”
The waitress nodded, so the Democrat directed her to give Jesus a cold beer. “On my bill,” he said loudly so everyone in the restaurant could hear.

As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Republican, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up and began to praise the Lord. Jesus passed by the Libertarian, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Libertarian felt his back straightening up,he raised his hands and he, too, began to praise the Lord.

Then, Jesus walked, with a huge smile on his face, towards the Democrat. The Democrat jumped up and yelled, “Don’t touch me……. I’m on disability.”

For Those Who Understand, No Explanation is necessary.
For Those Who Do Not Understand, no explanation is possible.

I posted this on the SDC-HOG website and just copied the code and PRESTO, 2 for 1 effort!

So I took a little ride today. It was only 275 miles and while I had no real destination, I planned on stopping at anything that looked somewhat photogenic. As you can see, there are many things to see on New Mexico’s backroads. Leaving my place, I headed south on NM Route 3 to Encino. The first time Nina and I made this trip, the hotel was still open and for sale. 22 years have been pretty hard on that place.

I had breakfast at Penny’s Diner on NM Route 60. Killer omelet was made by Jodie! I killed 45 minutes there chatting with some of the locals before continuing east on Rt. 60. 60 is not a very pretty route but it does have some items of interest. While not a ghost town, Yeso is a near ghost with only a few buildings occupied.

I realized that continuing on 60 was the long way home, but I figured “what the hell” and kept on heading east. I turned north at Ft. Sumner after taking a picture at the Billy the Kid Museum. While cruising north, I started to wonder if NM Route 84 was the route that had that old sign from a defunct restaurant. It turns out that it was and that would be the last picture in the set below. I took 84 to I-25 and 25 home.

Nice Ride!

Boy, did I screw up. I never planned on hitting Fort Sumner on this ride. You gotta visit this museum, it’s better than the other one on this page!

Happy Mother’s Day!

  • Today is Mother’s Day. Mom, I love you and will see you soon.
  • To all the other mothers that read this, this posting’s title applies to you too, especially Nina, the mother of my 2 amazing kids. It also applies to the mother of my beautiful granddaughter, Tori.
  • Yesterday I rode the same ride as Thursday only as a road captain this time. We had 12 bikes and a mystery vehicle on this ride and about 17 people attending. What a day.
  • We did the Valles Caldera stop, the Los Ohos Restaurant & Bar stop, and a bunch did the tunnels again. I passed on the tunnels since I was there on Thursday. Both rides added over 300 miles to my bike combined.
  • The trip alone, from the dealership is 180 miles roundtrip, but when you add the distance from home to the dealership could bring my total miles for the 2 trips close to 400 miles.
  • I made pancakes for the family today. I did everything for Nina, Erin, and  Michael, but Erin cooked the pancakes for Tori.
